About this site

I'm not a fan of how the internet has become homogenized into social media feeds, manipulated by algorithms, and otherwise polluted by capitalism. How the hell are you supposed to trust someone's advice/recommendations if there's a monetization advantage? Fuck influencer culture and the grounds that bred it.

Between 2005 and 2009 I was heavy into the last wave of passion-project content creation- before blog monetization, youtube channels, etc. The circles I was part of were all homegrown; we built our dumb little websites by hand (eventually moving up through CMS systems like Cutenews and Wordpress via communal information-sharing). No SEO crap, very rarely you'd see someone signed on with AdSense, but most of our out-linkage was through commenting on each others' update posts and placing buttons for our affiliates ("affies") and "sister sites." We made Photoshop brushes, texture packs, PSDS/actions, hand-extracted PNGs of whoever was hot at the moment (I literally still have a Lady Gaga graphic SBS from 2009 sitting in a Photobucket account. OG stan shit); we wrote tutorials for bits of code we had figured out, and annotated step-by-steps for the neat photo edits/blends we'd created. Nobody had any huge incentive to be doing this other than the fact that it was fun and we were making friends.

Long story short, I miss that. No performance metrics, no engagement chasing, no algorithm-driven bullshit; just throwing stuff up on the internet out of the goodness of your heart where it will be found only if it is genuinely sought. So returning to that is kind of the idea here. I hope that you enjoy it as much as I do.
